Hi! My name is Marcia Post-Melchisky, and for over 25 years now I have been working with local bike shops to upcycle spare parts and give them new life as eclectic jewelry and housewares. As both an avid cyclist and crafter, the the pairing came to me naturally in the 1980’s. I started out by selling my wares on the streets of Greenwich Village, and have worked my way towards having pieces in local boutiques and on Etsy. I gather my materials from local bike shop recycling bins in exchange for beer and good conversation. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from these talks with bike mechanics!
My favorite part of the creative process is imagining just where these bike parts have been and what they have seen; a local bike messenger delivering goods in the rain and snow, a novice cyclist who has just decided to train for a charity bike ride, or a lost soul making the great trek across the country on bike. These daydreams and imaginings help shape the earrings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and pendants that result.
